A fake-woke mom in Texas must join a support group for parents of LGBTQ+ kids or lose her company — a chain of queer-positive gyms.
Synopsis
AINSLEY is the straight, super-woke CEO of a national chain of queer-positive gyms. But when her daughter, JENNA, publicly comes out as pansexual, Ainsley freaks out - terrified for her daughter’s safety. Unfortunately, this is live-streamed, and now Ainsley’s business model is fucked. In contrast, CHUCK is already an a-hole. But he loves his “son” ROCKY, a former marine. When Chuck walks in on a terrified Rocky dressed as a woman, he laughs it off as “dressing up,” but Rocky’s mom knows that Rocky is trans. She’s done with Chuck pretending he doesn’t know.
Ainsley and Chuck reluctantly attend FLAGS – a support group for parents of queer kids led by annoyingly energetic nonbinary counselor SLOANE. This six-month class is filled with other struggling parents: a devout Latino catholic, unable to attend his gay son’s wedding without jeopardizing both their souls; Ainsley’s head of PR, who wants her queer son to wear Wranglers like the other boys; a Black former athlete who doesn’t want his lesbian daughter to face more prejudice than she has to; and an 80-year-old granny who needs to understand what it means that her grandson is intersex. Sloane puts their class of misfits through a rigorous program designed to force these parents to do one thing: push through their fear to get to a wholehearted affirmation of their kids and march In a pride parade.
